The company requires the successful candidate for this role to ordinarily be at the production site five days a week, although the company allows flexibility when needed.

Medical cannabis has been legal in the UK since 2018, with over 50,000 patients currently prescribed medical cannabis through private clinics. Currently, over 99% of prescribed medical cannabis products in the UK are imported by distributors from the EU & Canada and sold to private clinics for patient prescriptions. However, our client is one of the first British medical cannabis cultivation companies, dedicated to producing high-quality pharmaceutical medical cannabis specifically for the UK market.

They have recently launched their first medical cannabis product/medicine into the UK market, making them one of the first British medical cannabis cultivation companies to successfully bring domestically grown medical cannabis to patients. As they continue their journey to becoming the UK’s leading medical cannabis supplier, they are now looking for a QA Officer to support their growth and ensure the highest quality standards.

Founded in 2019, the company has grown to a team of 12 full-time employees and is looking for individuals who enjoy a startup environment. The Quality Assurance Officer will support the QA Manager in overseeing GMP compliance and ensuring adherence to Quality Management System (QMS) requirements. The role involves assisting in maintaining quality certifications and standards in the manufacturing, testing, and release of medical cannabis products.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting and improving procedures
  • Conducting internal audits
  • Reviewing GMP batch manufacturing records
  • Preparing for regulatory inspections
  • Providing quality oversight to support manufacturing and business activities, ensuring compliance with MHRA and industry standards
  • Assisting in maintaining the company’s Quality Management System (QMS), including drafting new procedures
  • Conducting internal self-inspection audits and supporting Quality Meetings
  • Ensuring compliance with GMP, GDP, Home Office approvals, and other regulatory certifications
  • Preparing for MHRA and other regulatory inspections
  • Collaborating with various departments to uphold quality and compliance standards

Qualifications:

  • Degree/Diploma/Apprenticeship/Educational Qualification in a relevant life-science field or similar
  • Absolute Minimum 2+ years of Quality Assurance experience in a GMP-certified environment, with extensive hands-on GMP experience
  • Experience in the quality sector in manufacturers of pharmaceutical products and/or APIs
  • Bonus Points for: Experience/Interest in the Medical cannabis industry; Experienced in gaining and achieving EU GMP Certifications or building GMP labs
  • Detail-oriented and accurate with high-quality work standards
  • Willingness to stay updated on evolving quality systems and industry regulations

Compensation & Benefits:

  • ~£35,000 – £40,000 depending on experience and seniority level (the client is open to candidates at varying levels)
