We are looking for an Opto-Mechanical engineer to join us at this exciting stage of our growth to work on a variety of projects and provide opto-mechanical engineering support to the company. We are a dynamic and fast-growing SME and are looking for motivated individuals keen to grow with us and work on cutting-edge future technologies. Working with us means being part of a small, focused team where your contributions are visible and valued. You'll be trusted to manage your own work, supported by colleagues who are approachable and highly capable in their fields. We maintain a balance between autonomy and collaboration, with regular technical discussion and knowledge sharing.
The role will predominantly focus on mechanical design with consideration given to optical aspects such as alignment, bonding and thermal management. Main areas of responsibility, supported by senior engineers, shall include:
- Design and develop opto-mechanical systems and sub-assemblies from concept to prototype/low volume production including the generation of manufacturing data packs
- Conduct structural, thermal, and vibration analysis using FEA software
- Supporting technical proposals as necessary
We are looking for applicants with the following skills and experience.
Essential:
- Educated to at least Bachelor's level in engineering or related discipline.
- Desire to work on new technologies and concepts
- Desire to work autonomously within a small dynamic team
- Proficient in 3D CAD software and modelling tools (SolidWorks/Creo etc)
- Knowledge of relevant standards (BS888, ISO)
- Experience with FEA software for structural, thermal, and vibration analysis (Ansys)
- Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in UK immediately.
Desired:
- 3 years relevant professional experience
- Practical experience working in an optical laboratory and running experiments
- Familiarity with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), surface finishing/protective finishes, thermal management & optical alignment techniques
- Optical modelling experience (eg Zemax)
Location:
Based in Edinburgh (may be a possibility to work in London) Hybrid Working Candidates must be willing to travel as required.
