Leeds City College is looking for a Trainer to join our Foundation Studies Department. Foundation Studies is a discrete element of the curriculum offered within Luminate Education Group. The department provides bespoke learning for students who are identified as SEND and High Needs aged 16-24. We take a student-centered approach to deliver so that students make the best possible progress towards EHCP outcomes, personal targets and the development of English and maths. We provide a welcoming and supportive environment in order to best support learners through their chosen pathways (Work Skills, Life Skills) for their preparation into adulthood.
Please note, this is a reduced year role of 39 weeks per year. The pro rata'd salary for this role is £25,214 with progression to £26,694.
What You Will Do
- Planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored to students' individual needs.
- Supporting students with a range of learning difficulties, including those with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).
- Teaching practical life skills, employability skills, literacy, numeracy, and independent living skills.
- Creating learning resources and adapting teaching methods to suit different learning styles.
- Monitoring learner progress, completing assessments, and maintaining accurate records.
- Working closely with learning support assistants, therapists, parents/carers, and external agencies.
- Creating a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment where students can build confidence and independence.

- Experience working with SEND learners.
- Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
- Ability to differentiate teaching and support individual learning needs.
- Knowledge of EHCPs, safeguarding, and inclusive teaching practices.
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to motivate students and celebrate small achievements.
