About the Role:
Leeds City College is seeking a Public Services Coach to join us at our Quarry Hill Campus. The School of Public Services supports over 400 students on courses from Level 1 to Level 3, preparing them for careers within the emergency services and armed forces and many more sectors. We don’t just teach in classrooms – our students learn resilience, confidence, and discipline through practical experience.
What You Will Do:
- Be responsible for a caseload of learners who require coaching and support as part of their planned learning programme.
- Deliver group sessions exploring a wide range of personal, social, health, and economic topics.
- Support learners to track and monitor progress towards achievement using assessment grades.
- Communicate with parents and guardians to support progression and build positive relationships, and identify where learners require intervention.
- Identify barriers to learning and implement strategies to overcome them.
- Develop and agree individual learning plans, identify SMART targets and set aspirational goals for learners, liaising with subject specialists and other academic and support staff.
- Manage learning in a variety of spaces, creating a positive and focused experience.
- Facilitate and participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities with learners.
About You:
- English and Mathematics at Level 2 or above and a willingness to improve in one or both disciplines to Level 3 or above.
- Supporting teaching and learning / teaching assistant / or learning, mentoring/coaching qualification or commitment to achieving within 1 year of appointment.
- A passion and ability to inspire and motivate young people to become future uniformed services and armed forces personnel, and youth workers.
- Recent teaching or instructing experience that demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles.
- Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs.
