About the Role:

Leeds City College are seeking an Apprentice Teacher of Animal Care to join our dynamic team in the Animal Care and Land Management department. In this role, you will have the opportunity to deliver on our Animal Care courses both in our animal care centre and Home Farm whilst you undertake a Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship. This is a fantastic opportunity to earn whilst you learn and work towards becoming a qualified teacher. You will receive support, guidance, and all the necessary tools to complete your apprenticeship whilst gaining valuable experience on the job. This role will be supporting these learners to achieve their full potential on their vocational programme. This role will predominantly be based at Temple Newsam but on occasion there might be the requirement to also work at other campuses such as Printworks or the University Centre. This is a practical role, delivering practical sessions in our farm and animal care centre, the successful candidate should have experience working in a similar setting. The School of Animal Care and Land Management offers a wide range of study programmes, apprenticeships and Higher Education (HE). Whilst this role will predominantly be working with Further Education (FE) students we will require the successful candidate to demonstrate flexibility and be able to work with a variety of learners. We envisage this role starting in September 2026. This is a fixed term role for the duration of 18 months.

What You Will Do:

  • Deliver and assess essential knowledge and understanding to learners.
  • Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans.
  • Create individual SMART learning targets linked to learner study programme/course and track and monitor progress against these.
  • Be responsible for recording student progress and supporting students to achieve targets.
  • Delivery of a minimum of 150 teaching hours over the two-year period.

About You:

  • Hold a degree in a relevant subject.
  • Hold Level 2 English and Maths qualifications or equivalent.
  • Relevant up to date subject knowledge in a specific subject area and up to date knowledge of workplace practice.
