Role Overview

The EDS Engineer will be the technical authority for the vehicle’s low-voltage electrical architecture. You will own the complete low-voltage book of schematics, manage wiring harness designs and drawings, and ensure all electrical distribution systems are accurate, manufacturable, and meet project requirements. You will work closely with design, systems, and manufacturing teams to deliver a robust and reliable electrical system.

What You’ll Do

1. Electrical System Ownership

  • Own the complete low-voltage electrical schematics for the vehicle.
  • Develop, maintain, and control the low voltage wiring harness drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all low-voltage electrical distribution queries and updates.

2. Design & Integration

  • Design harness layouts, connector specifications, and wiring routing to meet performance, environmental, and packaging requirements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into the overall vehicle design.
  • Ensure designs meet functional, safety, and manufacturability requirements.

3. Supplier & Manufacturing Support

  • Liaise with harness suppliers to ensure correct build specifications and high-quality production.
  • Support harness and electrical component sourcing, ensuring parts meet design and cost requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance during prototype builds, manufacturing trials, and pre-production runs.

4. Change & Configuration Management

  • Maintain revision control of all schematics, harness drawings, and electrical documentation.
  • Manage engineering changes and ensure updates are correctly implemented in both design documentation and production builds.

5. Validation & Troubleshooting

  • Support vehicle build and test phases by validating harness installation and electrical function.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving electrical issues during integration and field testing.

What You’ll Bring

  • Significant experience in electrical distribution systems engineering, preferably in the automotive, off-highway, or heavy equipment industries.
  • Proven experience with complete vehicle electrical systems, from schematics through to production harness delivery.
  • Experience working with low-voltage systems (typically 12V/24V) and familiarity with CAN bus networks and connectors.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with electrical CAD tools (e.g., Arcadia, Zuken E3, CATIA Electrical, Mentor Capital Harness, AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Strong understanding of wiring harness manufacturing processes, connector systems, and electrical standards (e.g., ISO, SAE, IPC/WHMA).
  • Knowledge of electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting techniques.

Soft Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain documentation accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and suppliers.
  • Highly organized with strong ownership and accountability for deliverables.
