Our technologies power cloud data centres, AI/ML infrastructure, telecommunications networks, and advanced industrial applications worldwide.

We operate across two business segments:

  • Cloud & Networking – Optical and photonic components, modules, and subsystems supporting cloud infrastructure, data centre interconnects, and communication networks.
  • Industrial Tech – Advanced laser technologies including solid-state, fibre, diode, ultrafast, and gas lasers serving a wide range of industrial markets.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer to join our semiconductor and optoelectronics team. This role will focus on the reliability assessment, qualification, and failure analysis of advanced optoelectronic devices, including III-V and Silicon Photonics (SiPho) technologies.

The successful candidate will work closely with design, process, product, test, and quality engineering teams to develop qualification strategies, investigate reliability risks, and support customer-facing reliability activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, plan, and execute reliability qualification programmes for optoelectronic components.
  • Evaluate semiconductor and optical component ageing behaviour and identify reliability risks.
  • Develop failure mode-specific degradation models and perform life prediction analysis.
  • Conduct accelerated life testing and reliability assessments.
  • Lead root cause investigations and reliability analysis of field returns.
  • Apply Design for Reliability (DfR), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) methodologies.
  • Analyse complex reliability datasets using statistical and modelling tools.
  • Prepare technical reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support customer discussions relating to product reliability, qualification, and physics-of-failure.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Master's degree in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • Strong academic background in a relevant engineering or scientific field.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience within semiconductor or optoelectronic industries, with demonstrable expertise in:
    • Reliability engineering and qualification of optoelectronic components.
    • Reliability programme definition, planning, and execution.
    • Failure mechanisms in lasers, photodetectors, modulators, waveguides, resistors, and fibre-coupled devices.
    • Accelerated life testing, reliability modelling, and lifetime prediction.
    • Statistical analysis using tools such as ReliaSoft/Weibull++, JMP, Minitab, or Python.
    • Design for Reliability (DfR), FMEA, and FTA methodologies.
    • Technical report writing and presentation of reliability data and conclusions.

Desirable Experience

  • PhD in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • Semiconductor fabrication and process engineering experience.
  • Test instrumentation development and die-level characterisation.
  • Programming experience in Python, C, or C#.
  • Failure analysis techniques including Electroluminescence, FIB, SEM/TEM, and EDX.
  • Device modelling and Design for Reliability using COMSOL or Ansys.
