Business Development Representative
Business/Workforce Readiness technology · Bracknell · £30,000 - 33,000 + uncapped commission, OTE £60,000 year one
Want to get into sales?
We're looking for a Business Development Representative to join LUMA1.
We don't particularly care whether you've done this before. We care whether you've got drive.
This is for someone who wants to build a career in sales, is prepared to work hard at it, and isn't frightened of picking up the phone. Because you'll be picking up the phone. A lot.
What LUMA1 does
We build software that keeps construction, manufacturing and infrastructure workforces compliant and ready to work: training, credentials, competency, and the evidence that all of it is current. If a Tier-1 contractor can't prove that the person walking onto site is qualified to be there, that's the problem we solve.
You'll be selling it into some of the biggest construction, manufacturing and infrastructure businesses in the UK and Ireland. It isn't glamorous. It's a real problem, with real budget attached, and the people who buy it will take you seriously if you know what you're talking about.
The job
Your first job is straightforward: find the right people, contact them, start conversations, and get meetings.
You'll work directly with our leadership team, the CEO and UK MD, and you won't be handed a blank CRM and told to figure it out. You'll get a built target list of UK Tier-1 contractors and manufacturers, working sequences, and a proper stack behind you. Phone first, but LinkedIn and email as well, because that's how these buyers actually get reached.
At first you'll concentrate on prospecting and booking meetings. Then you'll sit in on those meetings and learn. You'll learn how we turn a suspect into a prospect. How we identify a real opportunity. How we follow it up. How we handle objections. How we build a relationship. And eventually, how we close.
As you get better, you'll take on more. The aim is to move you to Account Executive with your own accounts and your own number inside 18 to 24 months.
Who we're looking for
You might be at the beginning of your career. You might have tried something else and discovered you're good at talking to people. You might already have some sales experience and want somewhere you can progress quickly.
You don't need to be polished. You do need to be:
- Hungry
- Persistent
- Curious
- Comfortable talking to strangers
- Able to take a "no" without taking it personally
- Prepared to make another call when the last twenty went nowhere
- Interested in how businesses and people actually make decisions
- Ambitious enough to want your own customers and your own number one day
- And you need some personality. We don't want a corporate sales robot reading from a script.
What this isn't
This isn't a job where you spend six months "getting ready" before you're allowed near a customer.
You'll be on the phone. You'll hear no. You'll get ignored. You'll occasionally have a terrible day. And then you'll come back and do it again.
Because somewhere amongst all those calls is the person who says: "Yes, that sounds interesting. Let's talk."
That's your job. Find them. Then learn how to turn that conversation into business.
How we work with you
You're not being left alone with a headset. You'll sit close to the people who run this business, you'll be coached on live calls, and you'll get honest feedback quickly rather than at a quarterly review.
Here's what good looks like by month three: 12 qualified meetings booked per month, and you can hold your own in a discovery conversation without a script.
Neurodivergent applicants
We welcome neurodivergent applicants, and we're interested in what you can do rather than whether you fit a conventional mould.
If you need adjustments at any stage, including the format of the interview itself, tell us and we'll sort it out. You don't need to explain why.
You must have the right to work in the UK.
