Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant / SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Behaviour Mentor, or SEN Support Assistant who is passionate about helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning. You will support pupils with a range of additional needs, including Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs, and associated behavioural challenges. Working closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff, you'll play a key role in helping pupils build confidence, develop positive relationships and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs.
- Support children with Autism (ASD), ADHD, communication needs and emotional regulation.
- Encourage positive behaviour using consistent behaviour management strategies.
- Help pupils engage with learning inside and outside the classroom.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence and independence.
- Support teachers with lesson preparation and classroom activities.
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Promote a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
About You
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Mentor or Youth Worker.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH, ASD, ADHD or behavioural needs.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
