Luma Education Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and resilient Special Education Teacher to join a specialist secondary setting supporting pupils aged 11–16 with a range of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and Special Educational Needs. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes through a nurturing, structured and therapeutic approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with SEMH and SEND
  • Create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment where pupils can thrive academically and emotionally
  • Support the development of pupils' confidence, independence, emotional regulation and social skills
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, pastoral teams and senior leaders
  • Monitor progress, adapt learning strategies and contribute to EHCP targets and reviews
  • Promote positive behaviour through consistent, trauma-informed practice

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching pupils with SEMH, SEND, Autism, ADHD or associated needs
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, adaptable and resilient approach to teaching
  • Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service) or willingness to obtain one
