Luma Education Recruitment is working with a specialist education provider to recruit a dedicated and experienced Careers Advisor & University Counsellor to support young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified careers professional who is passionate about helping young people understand their strengths, explore future pathways, and successfully transition into further education, higher education, apprenticeships, training, employment or supported adult pathways.
Working across multiple sites, you will provide personalised careers guidance and transition support to students across Key Stages 4 and 5, helping them build confidence, independence and ambition for life beyond education.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver high-quality, impartial one-to-one careers guidance to students with SEN, SEMH and ASD needs.
- Support students with post-16 and post-18 pathways, including college, university, apprenticeships, training and employment opportunities.
- Lead UCAS applications, university guidance, personal statement support and higher education planning.
- Provide careers education sessions, workshops and enrichment activities.
- Support students with CV writing, interview preparation, job applications and employability skills.
- Develop personalised transition plans to support successful next steps.
- Contribute to EHCP reviews, transition meetings and multi-agency planning.
- Build strong relationships with students, families, education staff, employers, colleges and external agencies.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, destinations and careers activity.
- Ensure careers provision aligns with the Gatsby Benchmarks and best practice guidance.
To be successful in this Careers Advisor role, you will ideally have:
- A Level 6 or above qualification in Careers Guidance (such as QCG, Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance or equivalent).
- Experience delivering careers guidance to young people in an education, youth or community setting.
- Knowledge of post-16 and post-18 pathways, including FE, HE, apprenticeships and employment routes.
- Experience supporting young people with SEN, SEMH, ASD or additional needs.
- Strong understanding of the Gatsby Benchmarks and careers education requirements.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to inspire, motivate and build confidence in young people.
- A patient, empathetic and flexible approach.
- Experience within a specialist school, alternative provision or SEND setting would be highly desirable.
- Competitive salary of £25,800 - £30,800 per annum.
