We are seeking an experienced and motivated Machine Borer / Manual Miller to join our aerospace manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for machining precision aircraft components using manual horizontal boring and milling machines, ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and safety. This role requires a strong machining background, the ability to interpret engineering drawings, and a commitment to producing work within tight tolerances in a regulated aerospace environment. Shift Based Role (Monday to Friday)
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual horizontal boring and milling machines to manufacture and repair aircraft components to specified tolerances.
- Machine components to fine limits while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
- Read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Carry out dimensional inspections using appropriate measuring equipment, including imperial measuring instruments.
- Select and use suitable tooling, fixtures, and machining methods to achieve required results.
- Work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks while contributing to team objectives.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, quality standards, and aerospace regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records, including Practical Experience Record (PER) documentation where required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and promote best practices within the machine shop.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Proven machining experience in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Strong manual milling and/or horizontal boring machine experience.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience working to tight tolerances and quality standards.
- Competent in the use of precision measuring equipment.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative to solve problems.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Aerospace engineering or aerospace manufacturing experience (Desirable).
- Knowledge of horizontal boring machine setup and operation.
Qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent), including Mathematics and English.
- Engineering or machining-related qualification/apprenticeship (Desirable).
