We are currently recruiting suitably qualified, competent and experienced Civil Engineering Site Engineers to work across various sectors of Civil Engineering, particularly in the Water Sector. With contract works across Lancashire & Cumbria, this presents an opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading multi-discipline Civil Engineering and Building Contractors in our Northern England division. Job Purpose
To provide technical expertise on civil engineering projects, including setting out, surveying, quality control, and compliance with design specifications. Works closely with Site Managers, Supervisors, and Operatives to ensure that works are delivered safely, accurately, and to programme. Contributes to the mentoring and development of junior team members, supporting succession planning within the business.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Carry out setting out, levelling, and surveying activities using GPS, total stations, and other equipment.
- Check drawings, plans, and quantities for accuracy against site conditions.
- Ensure compliance with design specifications, standards, and tolerances.
- Oversee quality control of works and record as-built information.
- Liaise with Site Manager, Supervisors, and Operatives to coordinate technical requirements.
- Support procurement of materials by providing technical details and quantities.
- Monitor and record site progress, keeping accurate site diaries, test results, and QA records.
- Identify technical issues and propose solutions to management.
- Ensure works are delivered in line with method statements, risk assessments, and CDM requirements.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, apprentices, and site staff to build future capability.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and company policies.
- Promote a culture of health, safety and wellbeing within the team.
- Lead by example in promoting safe working practices.
- Ensure site surveys and setting out are carried out safely and accurately.
- Promote compliance with RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements).
- Report hazards, unsafe practices, and incidents promptly.
- Verify that works comply with H&S standards, including temporary works and permits.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- CSCS card (appropriate technical level).
- Basic Health & Safety training.
Experience
- Previous experience as a Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer.
- Strong background in civil engineering projects (e.g., roads, drainage, utilities, structures).
Knowledge & Skills
- Competent in using GPS, total stations, and setting out instruments.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of civil engineering construction methods and standards.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
