As an Electronics Test and Development Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement automated test equipment and software for testing electronic components, circuits, and systems. You are responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of electronic products throughout their lifecycle, from design verification to production testing. This role requires strong technical skills in electronics, software development, and problem-solving and involves a daily presence at the Sowerby Bridge site.

Our products assist customers with energising urban and highways infrastructure from the ground up. Our range includes photocells, power distribution enclosures, EV connection feeder pillars, isolators, cut-outs and switchgear.
Job Dimensions:
- Collaborate with Electronics Hardware Design Engineers to validate designs and component selections.
- Partner with Electronics Firmware Design Engineers to ensure seamless integration and validation of firmware, software, and source code.
- Own the entire product test and validation process, including designing and implementing custom test software, hardware, and equipment.
- Co-develop and design production test platforms in conjunction with the Process Engineer.
- Be the ultimate authority for approval and release at all project stage gates and reviews.
- Play a pivotal role within the Technology Team, influencing all aspects of development.
- Provide crucial input from the project outset to guarantee product specification and compliance can be achieved.
Key Accountabilities:
- Designing and developing test equipment.
- Creating automated test systems, including hardware and software, for design verification and production testing.
- Writing test procedures and software.
- Developing detailed test plans and writing code to control test equipment and acquire data.
- Troubleshooting and debugging.
- Identifying and resolving issues with electronic circuit design, systems and test equipment.
- Analysing test results.
- Evaluating and documenting data from tests to identify potential problems and areas for improvement.
- Improving test processes.
- Optimising test methods and procedures to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Working with cross-functional teams.
- Collaborating with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and other teams to ensure product quality, specifications and costs are met.
Qualifications:
- Job Specific Skills:
- Electrical knowledge: Strong understanding of mains AC and low voltage DC power and the intricacies of various power supplies and loads, including surge suppression.
- Electronics knowledge: Strong understanding of electronic circuits, components, and systems.
- Software development: Proficiency in programming languages like C++, Python, Javascript or LabVIEW for test automation.
- Test equipment experience: Familiarity with various test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters and signal generators.
- Problem solving skills: Ability to analyse complex technical problems and develop effective solutions.
- Communication skills: Strong technical communication skills, adept at clearly conveying intricate technical details to diverse audiences.
Thoroughly document all work, encompassing equipment utilised, test objectives, methodology, results and their implications for product development and ultimate impact to the final product.
Preferential Experience:
- A senior role within electronics product test.
- Similar environment (Street Lighting, solar clock knowledge, DALI protocol knowledge).
- Relevant qualifications (ISTB, electronic/electrical/firmware/software).
