This apprenticeship will include an Electromechanical degree (BEng) from our learning provider, allowing you to gain real-world insight and experience in a fast-paced and ever-changing industry. Electromechanical Engineers solve real-world problems using a combination of mechanical and electrical engineering expertise. This occupation requires understanding software programming, interpreting data, using a range of CAD and software tools, and operating mechanical systems via electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic means, along with project resources management responsibility.

Job Dimensions

The structure of the apprenticeship is as follows:

  • 5-year engagement whereby you will be permanently employed by Lucy Electric whilst studying part-time at university.
  • You will receive a full honours degree upon completion, with Lucy Electric fully sponsoring your degree, including a competitive salary, university tuition fees, and accommodation costs for your block release.
  • 6 one-week block teaching weeks each year.
  • Extended workplace placements (rotations) in multiple engineering-related departments during your degree such as Design Engineering, Prototype, Technical, Applications and Contract Engineering, Quality, Industrial, Process and Production Engineering, Operations Management, Software, Hardware, and even Product Management.
  • A dedicated mentor throughout your studies who will assist with your rotations, study leave, induction to various business departments, and generally be a go-to contact during the start of your career with us.

We offer a unique programme that demonstrates a mix of electrical, mechanical, and general engineering input, designed to meet the evolving skills needed in this sector. In the first two years of the course, you will cover the foundations of electromechanical engineering. In the third and fourth years, you will focus on systems design, including a group design module. In the final year, you will have the opportunity to integrate your knowledge and understanding from the previous four years into your job role, carrying out a real-life electromechanical engineering project within your organisation.

You will benefit from being a fully integrated member of the university while also being part of Lucy Electric. You will engage in all available social and sporting activities at university and also get invited to the company Christmas Dinner!

Course Structure

A BEng degree requires students to be assessed on 360 credits of modules. Over the five years of the programme, the module titles and their credit loadings are as follows:

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • AAA grades at A level, to include Mathematics and a Physical Science. Applicants with a strong profile but without A level Mathematics will be subject to passing a Maths assessment.
  • BTEC Diploma grade D*D*, with an A grade A level Mathematics, or subject to passing a Maths assessment.
  • BTEC Extended Diploma grade DDD, including two Mathematics units or subject to passing a Maths assessment.
