Our Geo-Environmental Division supports clients with ground investigations, contaminated land assessments, and risk mitigation advice. The Role

We are seeking a Principal Geo-Environmental Consultant to join our growing Environmental Advisory team in London. This is a leadership role that combines project delivery, team management, and technical input across a range of ground-related risk and remediation projects. You will oversee projects from initial proposal through to reporting, and be responsible for mentoring and managing junior staff. We’re particularly interested in candidates who bring a technical specialism (e.g. geotechnical analysis, earthworks specification, waste classification, or detailed quantitative risk assessment) alongside strong project and client management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the delivery of geo-environmental projects across multiple sectors
  • Line manage and mentor a small team of consultants and graduates
  • Provide technical direction and peer review across site investigations and risk assessments
  • Plan, scope, and deliver Phase 1 and Phase 2 investigations, including fieldwork oversight
  • Prepare high-quality interpretative reports and recommendations
  • Manage client relationships and contribute to business development
  • Monitor project budgets, resourcing, and timelines
  • Ensure compliance with Lucion’s quality and health & safety procedures
  • Contribute to technical development and innovation within the wider division

About You

  • A degree (or higher) in Geology, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, or a related subject
  • Significant consultancy experience, with a strong understanding of UK land contamination and planning regimes
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects, people, and client relationships
  • A technical specialism or advanced expertise in a key area (e.g. DQRA, geotech analysis, materials management, waste soils)
  • Proven ability to write clear, accurate, and commercially sound technical reports
  • Effective communicator and confident collaborator
  • Chartered (or working towards chartership) with a relevant body (e.g. CIWEM, IES, GeolSoc)
  • Full UK driving licence
