Ready to shape the future of sustainable development in London and beyond? We’re looking for a passionate Senior Ecologist to join our values-driven team and help deliver practical, innovative, and sustainable ecological solutions for our clients.

At Lucion, we empower our people to protect both people and planet. As a purpose-driven, beyond net-zero organisation, we support development across 12 key sectors worldwide, providing expert inspection, assessment, and advisory services. Our name — Luc (to illuminate) and ion (to take action) — reflects our mission: to shed light on challenges and take action.

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced ecologist ready to lead projects, mentor junior staff, and make a meaningful impact? This is your chance to join a collaborative, growing team where ecology is a priority — not an afterthought.

We deliver Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) consultancy, protected species surveys, licensing, mitigation strategies, and practical ecological advice that supports sustainable development without compromising environmental integrity.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage ecological surveys and mitigation strategies across a variety of projects.
  • Undertake and oversee Phase 1/UK Habs habitat surveys and protected species assessments.
  • Produce and review high-quality ecological reports, including PEAs and EcIAs.
  • Mentor junior ecologists and support their development.
  • Engage confidently with clients, contractors, and stakeholders, providing clear and pragmatic ecological advice.
  • Help strengthen client relationships and maintain high consultancy standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 4 years of experience in ecological consultancy.
  • Strong fieldwork and survey skills, including habitat and protected species surveys.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning policy.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills, aligned with CIEEM guidelines.
  • Strong commercial awareness and client management abilities.
  • Ideally, a Natural England Bat and/or GCN licence (Level 1 or above preferred).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Membership of CIEEM (or working towards it).

Why Join Lucion?

We’re not just another consultancy — we’re a community united by purpose. When you join us, you’ll have the freedom to grow your career with structured progression pathways, protected species licensing support, and a genuinely supportive team.

We offer:
