Turning planning policy into thriving habitats (and happy clients).
Are you the kind of ecologist who gets a little too excited about biodiversity metrics? Do spreadsheets, habitat units and long-term management plans spark joy rather than fear? Can you talk BNG to planners, developers and landowners without anyone glazing over? Good. We should talk.
The Role
We’re looking for a BNG powerhouse to lead, shape and grow our Biodiversity Net Gain services across a wide-ranging portfolio of development projects. You’ll be our go-to technical authority for all things BNG — part strategist, part mentor, part problem-solver — ensuring outcomes that are ecologically sound, policy-compliant and commercially savvy. In short: you’ll help clients deliver development and biodiversity, without compromising either.
What You’ll Be Doing (In Real Life)
- Leading the planning and delivery of BNG solutions from concept to long-term management.
- Interpreting biodiversity data and statutory metrics like a pro (and explaining them like a human).
- Advising clients, planners and stakeholders with clear, practical, solutions-focused guidance.
- Reviewing and quality-checking ecological and BNG outputs to keep standards high and headaches low.
- Growing our BNG offer — spotting opportunities, shaping services, winning work and building partnerships.
- Supporting BNG markets, habitat banks and delivery partners (yes, you’ll be talking to landowners too).
- Line managing, mentoring and developing ecology and BNG colleagues.
- Making smart decisions that balance delivery, wellbeing, deadlines and client expectations.
- Championing health, safety and wellbeing — because good ecology starts with healthy people.
You’re technically confident, commercially aware and comfortable being “the expert in the room.” You can zoom out to strategy and zoom in to metrics, and you genuinely enjoy helping others grow their skills.
You’ll likely have:
- Strong experience delivering BNG under the statutory biodiversity metric.
- A deep understanding of policy, legislation and best practice.
- Confidence engaging with clients, LPAs and stakeholders.
- A knack for turning complex requirements into workable solutions.
- Leadership skills that are supportive, calm and decisive.
Because this is a chance to shape how BNG is delivered, not just tick boxes. You’ll have influence, autonomy, a talented team around you — and the opportunity to help build something meaningful in a rapidly evolving space. Plus, we like smart people who care about nature and enjoy working together.
