Overview:

We are looking for a creative who thrives in the "white space" of early development and possesses a true "Game Jam" spirit to join our team as a Realisation Designer. This role is designed for a creative generalist who thrives in the early stages of production, focusing on how visual design supports gameplay clarity, player readability, and the "moment-to-moment" experience across our console and PC titles. This role requires a natural curiosity for cutting‑edge workflows and the latest technologies to solve visual problems quickly. Ultimately, you are a versatile visual communicator who enjoys the challenge of wearing many hats and feels at home where the goal is to bridge the gap between a raw idea and a compelling, playable reality. This is a high‑impact role where you will support the development of new project proposals, internal prototypes, and co‑development partnerships by bringing ideas to life through a wide range of visual disciplines.

What you’ll do:

  • Create the visual assets needed for new project proposals and internal concept development.
  • Design for high‑stakes proposals and create unique project identities and logos.
  • Develop motion‑graphic concepts and video editing to communicate gameplay intent dynamically.
  • Work closely with Game Designers to visually define mechanics, states, progression, and player actions.
  • Partner with Art Directors to ensure prototype visuals align with the overall visual style and tone of the game.
  • Help create high‑quality deliverables and presentations that communicate gameplay intent to external partners.
  • Collaborate with Developers and Technical Designers to implement, test, and iterate on gameplay visuals in‑engine.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Experience in gameplay‑focused design or visual development roles within the games industry.
  • Delivered console and/or PC titles.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates a wide range of skills, from 2D painting and 3D layouts to graphic design and motion.
  • A history of working in multidisciplinary teams where adaptability and rapid turnaround were key.
  • Strong understanding of game design fundamentals, especially player feedback, readability, and affordance.

What can you expect during the Interview Process:

Our interview process typically takes 2–4 weeks depending on availability and is usually made up of 3 stages:

  • 1st stage (45 minutes) – An informal chat to discuss your experience and working history related to the position with members of our Design team and our Head of Talent. We will provide a full overview of the role, life at the studio, and answer any questions you may have.
  • Second interview (45 minutes) – A conversation with our Creative Director and Head of Talent focused on the project and your skills and experience. You will learn how our design teams work and the overall structure of our teams.
  • Final interview (30 minutes) – A final interview with our Studio Head and Studio Production Director. This is a chance to meet senior management and ask any questions about the studio and culture.

How can we support you?

We work our process around your availability and try to be as accommodating as possible. A member of our recruitment team will be in touch prior to your first interview and will remain in contact throughout the process. If you have any specific questions before this, please contact careers@lucidgames.co.uk. We can provide suitable adjustments during our recruitment processes. Should you require adjustments/flexible arrangements to interview, or to take up a role at Lucid, please let us know in the notes/cover letter section of your application; this will not affect your application.

Benefits:

  • Remote and flexible working to suit you around our core hours of 10‑4 pm.
  • Private healthcare for you and your family.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
  • Free parking in Liverpool City Centre.
  • Company pension at 4 % of annual salary.
  • 29 days holidays, including Christmas shutdown.
  • Cycle2work scheme.
  • Early Friday finish every last Friday of the month.
  • Profit‑share bonus & Christmas bonus.
  • Monthly company breakfast.

Don’t meet all the requirements? We care about what you can do, not just what’s on paper, and we understand that the best people for the role may have a CV that looks a little different.
