LUC is seeking a passionate and ambitious Consultant level Landscape Architect to join our friendly, award-winning design team in Edinburgh.
The successful individual will be in their early career and ideally have obtained some professional experience alongside their studies e. g. through a year-out placement, internship, graduate placement or work experience opportunity.
This exciting opportunity will be based within and supported by our existing landscape design team in Edinburgh with an opportunity to work with colleagues across the wider Scottish Design Team in Glasgow and across sites in Scotland.
There are also excellent opportunities to connect with colleagues in other disciplines and deliver design work alongside our ecologists, arboriculturalists, landscape planners, development planners, movement planners and historic environment consultants.
Many of our projects are multidisciplinary, which means the role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects.
Some of our current projects include
- University campus development projects like the new School of Computer Science for the University of St Andrews
- Outdoor learning facilities for the University of Edinburgh
- Landscape led masterplans for residential mixed-use development sites like Edinburgh Bio Quarter and Astley Ainslie Hospital
- Town centre public realm regeneration schemes like Kirkcaldy Waterfront Development Framework and Elgin City Centre regeneration
- Rural estate regeneration projects in beautiful and sensitive sites
- Commercial sites like the redevelopment of Calton Square in Edinburgh City Centre and a number of hotel/ visitor accommodation sites
The successful candidate will play an important role within the project teams, offering direct support to Project Managers and Project Directors.
They will be involved in all stages of project development from site appraisal, concept design development and the preparation of technical detail.
The preparation of graphic and drawing outputs will be a key responsibility.
There will also be the opportunity to undertake site inspections during construction and attend client / team meetings when appropriate.
The candidate will be supervised and guided by more experienced members of the team, allowing the continued development of skills, knowledge and confidence.
The role will offer the exciting opportunity to explore Scotland.
In addition to many projects located in the Central Belt, LUC is involved in projects throughout the Highlands and Islands as well as the Scottish Borders.
This role includes the opportunity to share and participate actively in the management and ownership of the business through the Employee Ownership Trust, which places full ownership of the company with the employees.

The role is based in LUC’s office in Edinburgh.
We operate a hybrid working policy with a minimum of 2 office days a week, although as an early career role, we would expect the successful candidate to spend more time in the office initially to support their development.

A full-time role is based on 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday).
Experience and qualifications
The successful candidate will have a genuine enthusiasm for the profession.
They will be able to demonstrate creative design flair, and a rigorous and thoughtful approach to project work.
They will have strong graphic, oral and written communication skills.
The successful candidates will also demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn quickly under the guidance of more senior members of the team.
There is an opportunity for P2C mentorship and we are keen to see candidates with an ambition to become chartered professionals.
The role will also include support across LUC's wider central teams to be involved in marketing and promotional activities.
- Successfully completed an accredited Landscape Architecture qualification at degree or postgraduate level.
- Skills and competency in graphic software packages particularly including use of the full Adobe Creative Suite and Auto CAD.
- A passion for delivering projects that make a difference - both to people and to the environment.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to building relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Enthusiasm and a willingness to work hard, learn and develop, and take on new challenges.
- Team working ethic and willingness to support and learn from senior team members
- Previous experience of working in a professional office environment in Scotland / UK.
- Keen to begin their Pathway to Chartership/become a fully chartered member of the Landscape Institute or may have recently achieved CMLI status.
- Understanding of BIM standards and use of Revit software and / or other 3d modelling software.
- Hand drawing skills.
- UK Driving Licence.
