Our client is now looking for a highly capable Rent & Service Charge Accountant to join our Finance team in a key role supporting the accurate setting, reconciliation and compliance of rents and service charges across our growing portfolio.
The Role
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will take ownership of service charge estimation, budgeting, reconciliation and rent compliance activities across the organisation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong service charge accounting experience within the affordable housing or property sector who enjoys working independently, building relationships and driving continuous improvement. You will play a key role in ensuring residents receive clear, transparent and accurate service charge information while supporting the business with financial insight and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage service charge budgets for new and existing schemes
- Reconcile actual service charge costs against estimates and produce year-end accounts
- Ensure rents and service charges are compliant with legislation, regulation and lease agreements
- Analyse management company charges and identify additional services required
- Support future scheme bids with draft service charge budgets and feasibility analysis
- Maintain accurate service charge information across systems and spreadsheets
- Assist with service charge information relating to staircasing and resales
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, managing agents and external stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and compliance standards
About You
We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent organisational and communication skills. You will ideally have:
- Experience within housing, property management or service charge accounting
- Strong understanding of service charge legislation and rent setting compliance
- Experience preparing service charge year-end accounts and reconciliations
- Knowledge of rent reviews across multiple tenures
- Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, XLookUps and data analysis
- Experience using housing management systems
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
