Due to continued growth, an established engineering and manufacturing business is looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Fitter. This position will involve the mechanical assembly and build of bespoke industrial machinery and engineered equipment, working from technical drawings through to complete machine build and final assembly. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in special purpose machinery, automation equipment or complex mechanical assemblies who enjoys working in a precision engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities for the mechanical fitter:
- Assemble bespoke machinery and mechanical equipment from engineering drawings and specifications
- Build and fit mechanical systems including drives, gearboxes, shafts and motion systems
- Interpret and work from GA drawings and assembly drawings
- Carry out precision fitting, alignment and adjustment work
- Follow assembly processes and build documentation to ensure quality standards are met
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to resolve build issues and support improvements
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to agreed deadlines
- Maintain high standards of health & safety and housekeeping
About You:
- Previous experience within machine build, mechanical fitting or special purpose machinery assembly
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Good understanding of mechanical assemblies, tolerances and alignment
- Experience working with bearings, motors, gearboxes, linear systems and drive assemblies
- Competent using hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment
- Able to work to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
- Self-motivated with a proactive and methodical approach
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or within a team
Desirable Experience:
- Pneumatic systems experience
- Sensor installation and mechanical integration
- Basic machining experience
- Experience working within manufacturing or engineering assembly environments
- Understanding of quality procedures and continuous improvement processes
