The Role - Installation Commissioning Engineer role
This is a varied, hands-on engineering position supporting the full lifecycle of bespoke machinery projects — from in-house machine testing and commissioning through to international installation, customer training, and after-sales technical support.
The role is predominantly factory-based in Leicester (approximately 75%) with regular international travel (approximately 25%) to customer sites for installation and commissioning activities.
This opportunity would suit an experienced Installation Engineer, Commissioning Engineer, Field Service Engineer, or Electro-Mechanical Engineer with strong fault-finding and customer-facing experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Commissioning engineer
- Pre-commission and test machinery to customer specifications
- Install and commission machinery at customer sites worldwide
- Deliver operator and maintenance training to customers
- Carry out industrial electrical wiring and control system updates
- Complete mechanical fitting work including pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Support international project planning and travel coordination
- Inspection, Testing & Quality
- Conduct QA inspections on machinery, assemblies, and production systems
- Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) with customers
- Produce inspection reports, test plans, manuals, and technical documentation
- Test and validate machinery performance against specifications
- Support development and testing of new machinery and systems
- Deliver customer demonstrations and machine trials
- Technical Support & Aftercare
- Provide after-sales and warranty support to customers
- Diagnose and resolve breakdowns and technical issues
- Respond to customer queries and maintain strong customer relationships
- Maintain accurate job reports and service documentation
- Collaboration & Compliance
- Support risk assessments, technical documentation, and operational manuals
- Ensure compliance with CE standards, ISO procedures, and Health & Safety legislation
- Support internal training and knowledge sharing across teams
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- ONC/HNC, Degree, or equivalent experience in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering
- Strong understanding of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems
- Experience with PLC-based systems and diagnostics
- Installation and commissioning experience within industrial or bespoke machinery environments
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Understanding of quality documentation and ISO procedures
- Good awareness of Health & Safety standards
- Full UK Driving Licence and valid passport
- Flexibility to travel internationally on a regular basis

- Previous international commissioning or field service experience
- Experience working with bespoke machinery or automated systems
- Commercial awareness and customer liaison experience
