We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Haverigg, working as a Cover Teacher. This role is offered on an ad-hoc basis. You will provide flexible teaching cover across a prison education setting, supporting learners in subjects such as Functional Skills, Employability, and Construction when needed. The role involves delivering structured sessions, maintaining learning, and adapting your approach to keep learners engaged and progressing.

Site Information: HMP Hindley is a Prison and Young Offender Institution (YOI) based in Bickershaw near Wigan, Greater Manchester. The resettlement prison has capacity for 600 young adults (18-25 years old) and adult males. The Prison is committed to providing a safe and educational environment where its prisoners can learn new skills to help them on release.

Role Responsibilities:

  • You will provide flexible teaching cover across a prison education setting, supporting learners in subjects such as Functional Skills, Employability, and Construction when needed.
  • Responsibilities include delivering structured sessions, maintaining learning, adapting your approach to keep learners engaged and progressing.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification – with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments conducive to learning and motivational for learners.
  • Have a previous track record showing achievement of quality targets.
  • Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Can motivate and enthuse learners.
  • Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets.
  • Demonstrate positive team working.
