We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Five Wells, working as a Creative Writing Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information: HMP Five Wells is a Category C prison that is based in Wellingborough. Built in 2022, this state-of-the-art prison accommodates a male prison population. HMP Five Wells is committed to celebrating diversity and promoting equality throughout their services. The prison’s aim is to make Five Wells a better place to live, work and visit through collaborative working with third-party partners, the MOJ and its surrounding communities.

Role Responsibilities: The role will involve delivering engaging sessions across a broad range of levels as follows:

  • Stretching and challenging high-level learners to refine their craft and explore advanced writing techniques.
  • Sparking interest and confidence in lower-level learners, helping them discover the joy of storytelling and self-expression.
  • Creating a supportive, inclusive classroom that encourages imagination and personal growth.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience: To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification – with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners.
  • Have a previous track record showing achievement of quality targets.
  • Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Can motivate and enthuse learners.
  • Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets.
  • Demonstrate positive team working.
