We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Deerbolt, working as a Construction Teacher. This role is offered on a 6 months fixed-term contract, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.
You will deliver engaging vocational lessons within a prison education setting on a fixed-term basis, covering joinery, bricklaying, and painting and decorating. The role involves planning and delivering practical, skills-based sessions that support learners to develop trade skills, knowledge, and safe working practices in a secure environment. You will work with learners from a range of backgrounds, providing structured support to help them achieve qualifications, build confidence, and progress towards employment on release.
Site Information: HMP Deerbolt is a Category C, Training Prison for Adult Males located near Barnard Castle, County Durham. The prison provides educational programs, vocational training, workshops, healthcare services, and sports facilities. These initiatives are geared towards equipping inmates with skills and support for reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience: To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
- Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
- Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
- Have a previous track record showing achievement of quality targets
- Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Can motivate and enthuse learners
- Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets
- Demonstrate positive team working
