We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Swinfen Hall, working as a Maths Teacher. This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information: HMP Swinfen Hall is a category C prison for young adult and adult men located near the village of Swinfen and situated 2 miles south of Lichfield in Staffordshire. The key aim of the prison is to provide education, vocational training, and comprehensive support services to prepare inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Role Responsibilities: In this role, you will work with, and be supported by, our amazing team of dedicated professionals to mentor our learners and help them to secure future employment opportunities post-release. You will need patience, passion, flexibility and understanding in your approach to our learners, who have ‘hit a bump in the road’ but want to learn and improve. Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners.
  • Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets.
  • Have willingness to engage with and produce accurate and timely reports.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter.
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets.
  • Advocate for and engage consistently in positive team working.
