Are you passionate about helping learners build confidence with numbers and unlock new opportunities through maths? We’re looking for a dedicated, creative, and qualified Functional Skills Maths Teacher to join our prison education team.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Swinfen Hall, working as a Functional Skills Maths Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week. Cohort includes young adults (18 to 28 years of age) and we are looking to recruit a qualified Maths teacher.

Site Information

HMP Swinfen Hall is a category C prison for young adult and adult men located near the village of Swinfen, and is situated 2 miles south of Lichfield in Staffordshire. The key aim of the prison is to provide education, vocational training, and comprehensive support services to prepare inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Role Responsibilities

Teaching Functional Skills Maths to young adults from 18 to 28 years of age within a prison education environment.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification (PGCE or Certificate of Education)
  • Hold a relevant subject specialist qualification or commit to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Understand or have experience of creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets, producing accurate and timely reports, and positive team working
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, as well as good IT skills
  • Have passion for the subject and an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets
