Role overview
We are seeking an experienced, qualified English teacher (Alternative Provision) who is passionate, driven and enthusiastic to support and ensure their students receive the best possible education experience. You will have the ability to deliver lessons that accommodate a diverse range of learning styles and abilities and will work with teams of support professionals to ensure every student is supported to achieve their academic milestones. Strong communication skills are a must, and your ability to relate your knowledge with passion and fun will be key to our students’ success.
£27/02/2026 – Fixed‑term (until July 2026) part‑time (17.5 h/week – Monday all day, Wednesday morning only, Thursday all day) basis – Openshaw campus

At The Manchester College, you will be supported by our Teaching Academy to work towards qualified teacher status for post‑16 compulsory education, through a Cert Ed/PGCE. This includes 3‑4 hours delivery per week and engagement with a mentor to support your progress in the profession while you work. The starting salary for an unqualified teacher is between £30,750‑£32,931*. It’s a great way to kick‑start a rewarding career with full training and support. Once you’ve successfully qualified and demonstrated your teaching competence, you’ll progress to the qualified teacher salary banding.
*Consideration will be given to relevant industry experience and skills with the flexibility to offer increased starting salaries in some circumstances*.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Certificate of education or PGCE.
- Current and valid industry specialism.
- Assessor qualifications (if required by Awarding Organisation).
- Minimum Level 3 occupational qualification.
- English and maths minimum level 2, Grace C or grade 4 and above.
- Significant experience of delivering outstanding teaching and learning.
- Proven track record of high‑quality teaching in delivering subject specialism or current valid industry specialism.
- Working as a team.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Meet delivery targets and plans.
- Accurate and timely reports and records.
- Positive contribution to planning processes.
