We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Northumberland, working as a Catering & Hospitality Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, 18‑month fixed term, full‑time basis, working 37 hours per week.

They are currently rated “Good” by Ofsted and have partnerships with over 1,000 industry and employer partners, ensuring learners secure their place as future movers and shakers.

Site Information: HMP Northumberland is a Category C men’s prison located in Morpeth near the village of Acklington in Northumberland, England. The team’s aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification – with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have a previous track record showing achievement of quality targets
  • Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Can motivate and enthuse learners
  • Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets
  • Demonstrate positive team working
