At The Manchester College, we’re looking for vigilant and approachable Campus Safety Officers to play a key role in maintaining a secure and supportive atmosphere across our campuses. You’ll be the friendly, reassuring presence that ensures everyone feels protected and responding swiftly to incidents, promoting positive behaviour, and upholding safety procedures. In this vital role, you’ll help shape a space where learning can flourish without disruption. If you\’re calm under pressure, people-focused, and committed to safety, we want you on our team.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Planning and Performance Department as a Campus Safety Officer on a permanent, full-time (35 hours per week), term-time only (36 weeks) basis. The role is based at our Openshaw Campus however, this is a college wide role and could be allocated to any of our 5 sites depending on requirements of the business.

Our Openshaw campus is a vibrant, modern hub of learning, equipped with outstanding, industry-standard facilities designed to inspire both staff and students. Located just outside Manchester city centre, the campus offers a wide range of vocational and academic courses, with specialist spaces for areas such as construction, engineering, health, and digital.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • SIA Level 2 Door Supervisor (or willingness to work towards).
  • SIA CCTV Operator (or willingness to work towards).
  • Good Literacy and Numeracy skills (minimum level 2).
  • Level 3 First Aid at Work (or willingness to work towards).
  • Trauma informed Training (or willingness to work towards).
  • Fire Marshall Training.
  • ACT Security Training.
  • Experience of working with young people/adults in an educational or similar environment.
  • Experience of positive behaviour management.
  • Experience of dealing with incidents and incident management including.
  • To have empathy with young people, approachable but with the confidence to assert authority when required.
  • To show Basic Conflict Management Skills and to have a good understanding of the Security and Education Industries.
  • Experience of working under pressure, including handling difficult situations on your own and de-escalating them.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong people skills.
  • Ability to foster a culture of teamwork and excellence.
  • The ability to manage challenging situations calmly.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Understanding of the issues faced by young people that impact on their safety and wellbeing.
  • Committed to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.

  • To know and understand the definition of Reasonable Force as stated in Common Law.
