Are you passionate about helping learners build practical skills and confidence in warehousing and storage? We’re looking for a creative and enthusiastic Vocational Teacher in Warehousing and Storage to join our team at HMP Birmingham, delivering hands-on learning that supports progression into the warehousing sector and future employment.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Birmingham, working as a Vocational Teacher in Warehousing and Storage. This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Birmingham is situated in Winson Green, close to the centre of the city and is a category B prison for remand and sentenced adult males. The teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Role Responsibilities

You will need patience, passion, flexibility and understanding in your approach to our learners, who have ‘hit a bump in the road’ but want to learn and improve.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Have industry experience or relevant qualifications in Warehousing and Storage
  • Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets
  • Have willingness to engage with and produce accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets
  • Advocate for and engage consistently in positive team working
