We’re working with an organisation who have been awarded one of the best companies to work for in the UK for the last three years. This business provides Cloud, Connectivity, AI and DevOps services to the biggest names in Finance, Insurance, Retail, Travel & Leisure.

About the Role

They are looking for a Security Engineer to join their growing team. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with technical and operational teams to ensure systems remain secure, resilient, and compliant. From managing vulnerabilities to applying critical patches and enhancing endpoint protections, your expertise will help build a safer digital future.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and drive the vulnerability management process , from discovery to resolution.
  • Implement patching strategies for software and systems aligned with best practices.
  • Ensure secure configurations are consistently applied across infrastructures.
  • Support Microsoft 365 security, including tools such as Intune, Entra ID, and Defender.
  • Strengthen email security and hygiene through filtering, DMARC, SPF, and DKIM settings.
  • Contribute to effective asset tracking and lifecycle management of IT equipment.
  • Manage user access and permissions, enforcing least-privilege principles.
  • Configure and maintain Windows and Linux servers securely .
  • Troubleshoot issues across server and desktop environments.
  • Support firewall policies and monitor network security.
  • Provide clear updates and reporting on ongoing security initiatives.
  • Participate in incident response activities and investigations.
  • Deliver user awareness training and phishing simulations.
  • Stay informed on new threats and industry trends to keep defences current.

Qualifications

  • A Security Engineer with hands-on experience with vulnerability scanning tools and fixing identified issues.
  • A Security Engineer with strong Microsoft Defender and endpoint management skills
  • A Security Engineer with previous experience (4+ years) in IT infrastructure or sysadmin
  • A Security Engineer familiar with system hardening/secure configuration
  • A Security Engineer confident working across both Windows and Linux platforms.
  • A Security Engineer familiar with firewalls, secure networking , and related tools.
  • A Security Engineer with a solid understanding of Microsoft 365 security and administrative best practices.
  • A Security Engineer with knowledge of access and identity management tools such as EntraID.
  • Skills in scripting or automating tasks (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, API integration).
  • Exposure to regulatory standards like ISO 27001 or Cyber Essentials.
  • Familiarity with OWASP Top 10, CVE databases, or CVSS scoring.
  • Experience in cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS).
  • Understanding of mobile device management, ideally Microsoft Intune.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Security or Compliance credentials, or equivalents.
  • A curiosity for ethical hacking or using penetration testing tools.
