Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer who will be responsible for providing engineering resources for both planned and reactive maintenance activities to minimise downtime and eliminate quality issues. This role ensures the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all production equipment and site utilities within our fast-paced FMCG environment. In addition, the engineer supports continuous improvement initiatives and ways of working in line with the business strategy, while complying with all legislative, business, and site procedures and practices. This position requires a hands-on approach across mechanical and electrical disciplines, ensuring operational continuity and adherence to health, safety, and food quality standards.

Working Hours

41.25 hours per week, on a two-weekly rotating shift cycle as follows: 06:00–14:15, 14:00–22:15. Weekend coverage may be required depending on business needs and will be distributed fairly across teams, on a voluntary basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Self starter - Able to operate in a start-up business. Being able to identify what good looks like and strive to achieve it in everything that you do.
  • Fault diagnosis and breakdown repairs of plant and site service equipment utilising Simple Problem Solving to drive 100-year fix mentality.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of Planned Maintenance and Maintenance requests.
  • Adherence to statutory checks.
  • Adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice.
  • Carry out Risk Assessments on non-routine tasks.
  • Use Permit to work systems.
  • Involvement in Continuous Improvement and Capital projects.
  • Upkeep of spares - Booking parts in/out of Stores.
  • Writing of and continuous review of Engineering Technical documentation.
  • Support and coach relevant employees in all aspects of shared maintenance and advising/training line techs on technical aspects of running production lines.
  • To undertake training and up skilling programs as directed by business needs.
  • Provide effective equipment care.
  • Deliver effective communication at Production Cell reviews, Engineering meetings, Engineering Handovers.
  • Make decisions within the framework of site policies and compliance to customer codes of practice.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with LT Foods UK’s health & safety, food safety, and quality assurance standards.
  • Report any hazards, incidents, or near misses promptly to the appropriate Manager or Shift Supervisor.
  • Support the implementation of safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Participate in health and safety briefings and training sessions as required.

Requirements

  • Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship (Electrical, Mechanical or Multi skilled).
  • ONC or BTEC equivalent.
  • HNC (desirable).
  • IEE 18th edition.
  • Knowledge of: MS 360, Pneumatics, X-Ray & Check weighers, CMMS systems, Vertical/Horizontal Filling line, Plc – Siemens, Allen Bradley, HMI’s, Robotics, Inverters, Milling / Process equipment (material handling), Packaging machinery, FMCG experience, Food Industry (essential), Continuous Improvement Techniques.
  • Ability to work within a team and also on own initiative.
  • Able to operate safely without instruction.
  • SCADA System.
