Role Overview
The Assistant Technical Manager supports the Technical Department in ensuring that all products, processes, and systems fully comply with food safety legislation, customer requirements, BRCGS standards, and recognised industry standards. The role is designed to provide day-to-day technical support to the Technical Manager and to step into the role during periods of absence, ensuring continuity of technical leadership and operational compliance across the site.
The position provides support across compliance, audit readiness, internal audits, GMP standards, food safety systems, and regulatory activities, while driving continuous improvement in food safety, quality, legality, and operational compliance throughout the business. The role will support and oversee activities relating to the Food Safety Management System, CCP verification, traceability, complaint investigations, corrective and preventive actions, hygiene standards, factory compliance, and audit readiness across production, warehouse, intake, hygiene, and external operational activities.
Working Hours
40 hours per week. Monday – Friday, hours to be agreed with Management. An element of flexibility is required for this role to support the needs of the business and coverage of the team.
Food Safety & Technical Compliance
- Support implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS).
- Participate in HACCP, VACCP, TACCP, and risk assessment reviews.
- Ensure compliance with BRCGS Food Safety requirements, customers’ standards and internal procedures.
- Lead site traceability exercises, product control, and stock verification activities.
- Support complaint investigations, root cause analysis, and CAPA implementation.
- Ensure site’s audit readiness for customer, BRCGS, organic, and regulatory audits.
- Monitor technical compliance across production and warehouse operations.
- Escalate technical and food safety concerns where required.
Quality Assurance & Factory Standards
- Prepare daily KPIs figures for the morning operational meeting.
- Oversee daily GMP, hygiene, housekeeping, and factory standards.
- Coordinate and support QA activities across Production and Warehouse.
- Verify CCP monitoring and ensure checks are completed accurately and in real time.
- Support line start-ups, changeovers, and production verification activities.
- Conduct GMP, fabrication, glass & hard plastic, and internal audits.
- Monitor production records, coding, traceability, and product quality standards.
- Support management of non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Ensure audit readiness is maintained across operational areas.
- Completing and managing internal audits in line with the site audit schedule, customers’ standards and BRCGS requirements, ensuring corrective actions are implemented, verified, and closed effectively within agreed timelines.
Team Support & Continuous Improvement
- Support training activities relating to food safety, GMP, traceability, and procedural compliance.
- Coach production and operational teams on quality and food safety expectations.
- Promote food safety culture and continuous improvement throughout the site.
- Support implementation of improvement projects relating to quality, compliance, and operational standards.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with LT Foods UK’s health & safety standards.
- Report any hazards, incidents, or near misses promptly to the appropriate Manager or Shift Supervisor.
- Support the implementation of safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
- Participate in health and safety briefings and training sessions as required.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience within a food manufacturing technical or quality role.
- Good understanding of HACCP and food safety systems.
- Knowledge of BRCGS Food Safety requirements.
- Experience completing GMP and internal audits.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- Proactive and detail-focused approach.
- HACCP Level 3 desirable.
- Food Safety Level 3 desirable.
- Experience using SAP or similar systems advantageous.
