Assist with agricultural research in an experimental farm environment.
Responsibilities
- Mix chemicals according to instructions on container label.
- Lays out research plots, labels treatments for animals or plants, and assists with collection of data.
- Precisely records and reports data and maintains accurate research records.
- Performs difficult tasks related to livestock care: mixing feed, evaluating health, treating diseases, checking progress, breeding animals, delivering young, collecting semen, candling eggs, and specialized milking and milk treatment operations.
- Performs plant care activities: germinating seed, transplanting seedlings, pollinating flowers, and sexual and asexual propagation of plant materials.
- Adjusts and maintains complex equipment and operates experimental plot equipment to establish, maintain, and harvest research plots with precision.
- Performs comparable farming tasks in other agricultural research areas such as forestry, aquaculture, and agricultural engineering.
- Performs related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications & Minimum Requirements
Two years of experience in the care of animals, crops, shrubs, plants, or farm machinery operation. Or twelve semester hours in an agricultural field.
