The Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our construction team on a major data centre project in Sines, Portugal.
This is an on-site position, working closely with the project and commercial teams to support the financial and commercial management of the project from the construction stage through to completion.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in construction quantity surveying and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. You will work closely with project managers, contractors, subcontractors and other stakeholders to ensure commercial performance is effectively managed.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the commercial and financial aspects of construction packages throughout the project lifecycle
- Preparing, reviewing and managing subcontractor and supplier accounts
- Preparing and reviewing variations, valuations, applications for payment and final accounts
- Monitoring project costs, budgets and expenditure
- Reviewing subcontractor quotations and assisting with procurement and package negotiations
- Measuring and valuing construction works
- Preparing cost reports and providing regular commercial updates to the project team
- Identifying and managing commercial risks and potential cost implications
- Monitoring project progress against budgets and forecasts
- Reviewing contractual documentation and ensuring commercial obligations are managed effectively
- Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, subcontractors and suppliers
- Supporting the resolution of commercial and contractual issues
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and documentation
- Assisting with project forecasting and cost control through to completion
Experience and Skills
- Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
- Experience working on large-scale construction projects
- Previous experience with data centre, industrial, infrastructure or other complex construction projects would be advantageous
- Strong understanding of construction costs, commercial management and subcontractor accounts
- Experience with valuations, variations, procurement, cost reporting and final accounts
- Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and other technical documentation
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Good communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to work effectively with project teams, subcontractors and other stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple commercial activities simultaneously
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Fluent English is required; Portuguese language skills would be advantageous
- Ability and willingness to work on-site in Sines, Portugal
