World-Check One is a market-leading screening and risk intelligence platform used by financial institutions, fintech, corporates, and regulators to identify and manage financial crime risks (e.g., sanctions, PEPs, AML, adverse media). The development team builds scalable, high‑availability services, intuitive workflows, and compliant data pipelines that power critically important customer decisions worldwide.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead multiple multi‑functional engineering squads (backend, frontend, DevOps, QA) to deliver high‑quality product increments at pace. You’ll own engineering strategy and execution for critical domains within the World‑Check One ecosystem, drive technical excellence, and grow high‑performing, autonomous teams. You’ll partner closely with Product, Delivery, Architecture, Cyber‑Security, and Service/SRE teams to achieve business outcomes, improve reliability, and ensure regulatory compliance. This role will report to the Director of Engineering, World Check One, and be a key member of the engineering leadership team.
What You’ll Do
- Leadership & People: Lead and develop 15–20 engineers and managers across 3–6 squads; hire, onboard, coach, and retain top talent. Build a healthy engineering culture passionate about autonomy, accountability, craftsmanship, and psychological safety.
- Delivery & Execution: Own outcomes for your domain—roadmap delivery, quality, SLOs, and cost efficiency—across multiple products/services. Drive predictable delivery using agile practices and lean flow.
- Technical Direction: Partner with Architecture and Feature Architects to evolve platform strategy and simplify complexity. Champion sound engineering practices.
- Quality, Reliability & Security: Own non‑functional requirements: performance, resilience, scalability, and disaster recovery within SLO/SLA targets. Embed secure SDLC practices.
- Team Collaboration: Partner with Product Management and Delivery Management to develop roadmaps, define outcomes, and handle trade‑offs. Communicate plans, risks, and results to senior leadership.
- Operational Excellence: Scale teams responsibly: workforce planning, balancing the use of vendor resources and shaping the team backlogs appropriately. Optimise cloud costs and platform utilisation.
Required Experience
- 8–12+ years in software engineering with 4+ years leading managers and multi‑squad groups in a product environment.
- Validated delivery of large‑scale, distributed systems with high availability and compliance/security requirements.
- Deep understanding of agile delivery at scale, continuous delivery, and modern DevOps/SRE practices.
- Strong communication skills; able to translate sophisticated technical topics into business outcomes.
- Experience with one or more relevant stacks (e.g. Java, Vue), cloud platforms (AWS), and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
Nice to Have
- Domain experience in AML/KYC, sanctions screening, adverse media, or risk/intelligence data products.
- Data engineering and governance for regulated environments.
- Exposure to ISO 27001/SOC 2 controls, PCI/DSS, or similar regulatory frameworks.
Competencies
- Technical Excellence: Sets high standards for engineering practices and ensures quality, reliability, and maintainability.
- Customer Focus: Champions a customer‑first attitude and ensures teams respond quickly to issues.
- Risk & Compliance: Drives secure, reliable delivery that balances speed with safety.
- Leadership: Owns outcomes, leads through ambiguity, and coaches teams to learn and grow.
- Data‑Driven & Analytical: Promotes evidence‑based decision‑making and develops a culture of measurable improvement.
- Adaptability & Innovation: Empowers teams to experiment and embrace better ways of working.
- Communication & Influence: Communicate priorities and expectations clearly and build trust through transparency.
