Java Developer in Nottingham

Overview

Join to apply for the Java Developer role at LSEG. The successful candidate will join the Tick History Development scrum team in Nottingham and work on delivering new functionalities for the LSEG Tick History product, which provides real-time pricing data from over 500 global exchanges and contributors.

Responsibilities

• You will engage with product owners, architects and other specialists to understand business and technical requirements.
• You will translate business and technical requirements into detailed design specifications for application code and modules.
• You will provide design recommendations, developing and integrating programs per written specifications.
• You will build and maintain efficient, reusable, reliable and secure code based on Agile user stories.
• Within a multi-functional agile team, you will develop enterprise software, adhering to company standards and established software methodology.
• You will review work of peers and more junior developers, providing guidance to benefit the team.
• You will participate in Scrum meetings, giving timely status updates on areas you are responsible for.
• You will participate in researching new and emerging Time Series technologies, evaluating new tools and technologies with vendors.
• You will foster trust with partners, resolve issues, and proactively identify improvements to increase reliability, optimize processes, and balance risk/reward.

Essential Skills / Experience

• Proven experience in software development
• Knowledge of distributed system design and implementation
• Experienced software engineer with strong Java skills
• Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure)
• Good knowledge of Linux, development environments and tools
• Experience with object-oriented methodologies and design patterns
• Understanding of Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
• Understanding of security implications and secure coding
• Familiarity with software development lifecycle best practices, agile methods, and conventions (Source Code Management, CI)
• Practical experience with agile methodologies and tools (Scrum, JIRA, etc.)
• Ability to write clean, readable code and reusable components
• Experience with Test Driven Development and/or Behaviour Driven Development
• Self-motivated, resilient under pressure
• Good problem-solving and strong verbal/written communication skills

Desirable Skills

• General understanding of networks and protocol stacks
• Ability to simplify complex technical issues for senior partners
• Understanding of market data
• BSc Degree or equivalent experience in Software Engineering
