We are looking for to lead the next evolution of LSEG’s real‑time market data platform (RTMDS) and associated low‑latency infrastructure. This role is central to driving the technical vision, architectural strategy, and engineering excellence required to operate one of the world’s largest real‑time market data distribution platforms. You will partner with engineering squads, product leaders, and infrastructure teams to deliver scalable, resilient, observability‑rich services that underpin mission‑critical market data distribution globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a senior technical leader representing Real‑Time Engineering across LSEG. Partner with key stakeholders, including Product, Engineering, Operations, and Security to align architectural decisions with enterprise strategy. Mentor architects and senior engineers, fostering a strong culture of design excellence, data‑driven decision‑making, and ownership.
  • Infrastructure & Capacity Engineering: Drive infrastructure modernisation across compute and network layers, including hardware lifecycle optimisation and vertical/horizontal scaling architecture. Guide adoption of automation, observability, and SRE principles to improve resiliency, fault isolation, and recovery. Work with capacity management teams to ensure adequate platform headroom.
  • Low‑Latency Network Architecture: Lead architectural direction for ultra‑low‑latency network connectivity supporting real‑time distribution. Oversee design validation in vendor labs, including NIC tuning, kernel bypass techniques, routing optimisation, telemetry instrumentation, and packet capture strategies. Partner with Network Engineering on deterministic networking, congestion mitigation, timing synchronisation, and microburst‑tolerant path design.
  • Exchange Feed Connectivity & Market Access: Define architectural patterns for exchange feed capture, decoding, enrichment, and first‑hop distribution across global equities, derivatives, FX, fixed income, and crypto markets. Ensure ingestion resiliency through multi‑path routing, circuit diversity, co‑lo architectural best practices, and feed‑handler performance tuning. Lead evaluation and adoption of new exchange protocols, depth expansions, multicast upgrades, fast‑path designs, and emerging transport mechanisms.
  • Platform Modernisation: Define and lead a significant section of the strategy and design for a major replatform of LSEG Real‑Time's application estate to private cloud. Introduce containerisation for low latency, high performance market data applications. Drive adoption of DevSecOps via platform automation, inclusive of use of industry‑standard automation tooling, as well as generative AI.
  • Observability, Performance & Operational Excellence: Collaborate with the Real‑Time Unified Observability team to ensure all components expose actionable metrics, traces, logs, and health checks. Drive system‑wide performance optimisation initiatives including CPU reduction, memory efficiency, latency tuning, and network traffic reduction strategies. Strengthen DevSecOps practices by embedding build‑run accountability into engineering workflows.
  • Real‑Time Managed Distribution System Architecture (RTMDS): Own the technology platform roadmap for RTMDS, covering application and infrastructure strategy. Define architecture for next‑generation real‑time APIs and distribution methods, aligned to customer performance and throughput requirements. Lead the evolution of internal and external connectivity models including RTDS migration patterns, LSEG Real‑Time API, integration, and cloud‑aligned delivery.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Extensive experience designing and operating large‑scale, low‑latency, high‑throughput distributed systems.
  • Deep knowledge of market data platforms (e.g., RTDS, exchange feed‑handlers, exchange protocols and connectivity).
  • Strong background in network engineering, real‑time telemetry, and deterministic networking.
  • Proven experience leading major transformation initiatives (replatform projects, cloud migrations and modernisation).
  • Proficiency with observability platforms and SRE‑oriented engineering practices.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across senior business and technology stakeholders.
  • Experience with RWF/RTSDK, compression strategies (e.g., delta, binary packing), and entitlement systems.
  • Familiarity with container orchestration and infrastructure‑as‑code frameworks, especially Kubernetes.
  • Strong knowledge of capital markets and real time market data.
  • Understanding of generative AI.
  • STEM degree, or equivalent industry experience.

What You’ll Gain

  • Opportunity to shape the future of LSEG’s global real‑time data platform.
  • Influence over architecture that supports billions of market data updates per day.
  • An engineering leadership role at the centre of one of the industry’s leading global market data platforms.
