Role profile: We are seeking a skilled exports controls and sanctions manager to work in LSEG’s Sanctions compliance team, supporting the global business in identifying and managing compliance risks.
Role summary: This role requires a strong understanding of export controls and sanctions laws and regulations and how they are applied, interpreted and enforced by regulators, with a particular focus on UK, EU and US sanctions regimes. The candidate will be required to demonstrate their ability to conduct thorough and accurate reviews of export shipments including by identifying and assessing export controls licence requirements. The candidate will also work with Senior Managers and the Director of Sanctions to provide subject matter expertise and advice to the business on export matters. This role is well suited to an experienced exports/sanctions compliance professional who is looking to develop their skills and expand their expertise while supporting a dynamic and unique global business.
What you’ll be doing:
- Handling escalations received from our logistics teams (mailrooms) in first line teams to assess potential export risks relating to new shipments.
- Providing export/sanctions compliance advisory support to regulated and non-regulated business lines across the group and acting as a trusted advisor to business lines and management on sanctions matters.
- Collaborating with colleagues in the wider Financial Crime team in relation to operating processes and day‑to‑day compliance activities.
- Supporting with the management and use of export/sanctions licences, including and preparing applications for export/sanctions licences.
- Supporting with regulatory reporting requirements and engagement with government regulators/external auditors.
- Monitoring new export/sanctions developments and understanding how these changes impact LSEG business lines.
- Supporting with updates and changes to policies and processes.
- Supporting Financial Crime colleagues and the group’s Risk and Compliance functions to develop and enhance monitoring and management of evolving export/sanctions risks.
- Supporting with the delivery of training and awareness on export/sanctions compliance across the group.
What you’ll bring:
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification (other relevant industry experience will be considered).
- Previous experience of working in an export/sanctions compliance advisory role.
- A strong understanding of the UK export regime and how it is applied, interpreted and enforced. Experience of EU, US and other export/sanctions regimes is highly desirable.
- You must be able to demonstrate an ability to complete accurate and thorough export/sanctions queries and be able to classify products including encrypted items.
- You must be able to demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to summarise and explain technical concepts and analysis to a wide audience.
- Previous experience working in the financial services sector, the data & analytics sector or in a related compliance or professional services role is desirable.
- Previous experience of conducting investigations into beneficial ownership advantageous.
