ROLE SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Engineering Transformation will lead strategic initiatives to optimise Engineering’s cost base, with a particular focus on software licensing, vendor spend, developer tooling, platform costs, cloud consumption, and broader engineering expenditure. The role will work across Engineering, Finance, Procurement, FinOps, Architecture, and Product teams to build and execute sustainable cost optimisation strategies that reduce run-rate costs, improve commercial outcomes, enhance licence utilisation, and strengthen financial discipline across Engineering.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Build and maintain Engineering’s long-term cost optimisation strategy across software, cloud, infrastructure, platforms, tooling, services, and vendor spend.
- Identify high-value opportunities through spend analysis, benchmarking, usage assessments, licence inventories, demand forecasts, and architectural reviews.
- Establish repeatable approaches, frameworks, and governance to enable sustainable cost management across Engineering.
- Lead strategies to optimise major software licensing portfolios across Engineering.
- Drive software asset management maturity through improved inventory, entitlement, utilisation, and compliance processes.
- Identify opportunities to reduce duplicate tooling, consolidate vendors, improve licence utilisation, and eliminate under-used products.
- Provide commercial challenge and strategic input into major software renewals and vendor negotiations.
- Build trusted relationships with Engineering Leadership, CTOO teams, Finance, Procurement, Architecture, and Product organisations.
- Influence senior stakeholders to prioritise cost optimisation alongside resilience, performance, delivery, and innovation objectives.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Essential- Significant experience leading technology, engineering, operational, or cost transformation initiatives within a complex enterprise environment.
- Demonstrable experience delivering material cost savings and commercial outcomes across software, technology, or engineering organisations.
- Strong understanding of software licensing models, software asset management, vendor management, and technology procurement.
- Experience working with developer tooling, cloud platforms, infrastructure services, enterprise software, and SaaS vendors.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to evaluate business cases, investment decisions, and contract economics.
- Experience within financial services or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience with FinOps, TBM, Apptio, Cloudability, or similar tooling.
- Experience supporting large-scale software renewals, supplier negotiations, or sourcing activities.
- Knowledge of cloud economics, licence optimisation, and technology portfolio rationalisation.
