Role Profile
As a Lead in the Engineering Practices team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing engineering practices across the organisation. This varied position covers many aspects of engineering, including Cloud, Software Development, DevOps, CICD, Observability and Operations, ensuring our engineering practices are fit‑for‑purpose and ensuring best practices are adopted throughout our teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive initiatives around operational practices, including FinOps, Observability, Resilience and Operational Automation.
- Lead the evolution and adoption of engineering practices across the organisation, ensuring methodologies remain up‑to‑date and effective, particularly in support of AI initiatives.
- Lead initiatives to drive operational cost efficiency across the Group, in areas such as Cloud, Software Licensing, Infrastructure Decommissioning and Automation.
- Define and build metrics to measure operational efficiency across the Group.
- Collaborate closely with senior leaders, engineers and cross‑functional teams to provide thought leadership, mentorship and support for professional growth within the engineering community.
What You’ll Bring
- Broad experience of software and cloud engineering in large, complex organisations.
- Deep understanding of modern engineering practices (DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, CICD, Testing, Observability etc) and IT service management (ITSM) enabled by a modern engineering tooling ecosystem.
- Hands‑on experience with coding and the ability to solve problems using common engineering tools such as GitHub/GitLab, Python, Java, Go, PowerBI, SQL and GitHub Copilot.
- A passion for driving and delivering operational efficiencies.
- Experience working for a large, complex organisation where decisions and actions are highly federated.
- Solid skills in leading and managing communities of internal stakeholders, fostering collaboration and driving the adoption of strategic standards and ways of working.
