We are seeking a Director of Cloud Platform Engineering to lead the strategy, engineering, and operation of LSEG’s core cloud platforms. This is a deeply technical leadership role, accountable for the engineering, architecture, product roadmap, and operational excellence of the platforms that enable LSEG engineering teams to build, deploy, and run services securely, reliably, and at scale. You will lead a large product engineering organisation and work across engineering, product, architecture, security, risk, and operations to build cloud platforms as long‑lived, evergreen products. A core focus of this role is the development of self‑service internal developer platforms, enabling thousands of engineers to consume platform capabilities through well‑defined platform products that accelerate delivery while maintaining safety, compliance, and reliability.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own the strategy, technical direction, and roadmap for our Core Cloud Platforms, ensuring the platform meets LSEG’s needs for resilience, security, observability, performance, scalability, and developer experience.
- Lead the engineering and evolution of self‑service cloud platform capabilities, enabling teams to provision, deploy, and operate services through automated, productised interfaces.
- Build and operate cloud platforms as ‘evergreen’ products, with clear customer outcomes, service models, adoption strategy, lifecycle management, and roadmaps.
- Accountability for the developer experience of consuming LSEG’s core cloud platforms.
- Provide deep technical leadership across public cloud platforms, shaping standards, architectures, and guardrails for enterprise‑scale cloud engineering.
- Drive modern Site Reliability Engineering practices across the platform, including SLIs/SLOs, incident management, resilience engineering, and operational readiness.
- Establish and evolve platform observability, ensuring systems are measurable, diagnosable, and operable across infrastructure, runtime, and application layers.
- Define and govern release and testing frameworks for platform components.
- Champion automation‑first engineering through infrastructure as code, CI/CD, policy as code, and developer self‑service.
- Partner with security, risk, architecture, and product leadership to align platform strategy with regulatory and business priorities.
- Lead, coach, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers, building high‑performing teams rooted in technical excellence.
- Manage significant budgets, investment priorities, and vendor relationships.
- Engage senior stakeholders (C‑Level) effectively, translating complex technical topics into clear decisions and trade‑offs.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience leading large‑scale platform engineering, cloud engineering, or infrastructure engineering organisations.
- Deep technical expertise in public cloud platforms, with strong hands‑on experience in at least one major CSP and broad understanding across others.
- Understanding of Kubernetes and CNCF ecosystem tooling, with practical experience designing or operating cloud‑native platforms.
- Experience in Site Reliability Engineering, production operations, and platform observability.
- Experience building internal developer platforms and self‑service capabilities, with a focus on developer experience and adoption.
- Proven experience treating platforms as products, including roadmap ownership, lifecycle thinking, and customer‑centric design.
- Strong experience defining release frameworks, testing strategies, and deployment models for shared platforms.
- Deep understanding of infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and automation‑first engineering.
- Solid grounding in cloud networking, identity, security, governance, and compliance in enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated ability to drive technological and cultural change towards modern engineering practices (automation‑first, platform enablement).
- Experience in Cloud Cost Management and FinOps.
- Strong people leadership experience, including leading managers and developing senior technical talent.
- Experience managing significant budgets and delivery priorities.
- Excellent communication and senior stakeholder (C‑Level) management skills.
Preferred
- Experience in enterprise‑scale multi‑cloud environments.
- Familiarity with CNCF ecosystem tools (service mesh, observability stacks, policy engines).
- Experience in regulated, high‑availability environments (e.g., financial services).
- Experience in modern software engineering practices and languages (Python, Go).
- Experience building or enabling platforms that support AI/ML workloads.
- Experience enabling AI‑augmented engineering teams, embedding AI‑assisted tooling into the development lifecycle.
What You’ll Get in Return
- The opportunity to shape the future of Cloud Platform Engineering at LSEG.
- A role that combines deep technical leadership with broad organisational impact.
- The chance to build and evolve cloud platforms as products, directly impacting engineering velocity, resilience, and business outcomes.
- The ability to work on complex, mission‑critical systems operating at global scale, with high expectations for reliability, performance, and security.
- A collaborative, product‑led environment where modern engineering practices and continuous improvement are actively supported.
- Hybrid working model (3 days per week in the office).
