About the role

The Safeguarding Officer will support the effective delivery of safeguarding arrangements across the allocated College site(s). The post holder will work directly with students and staff to respond to safeguarding concerns, maintain accurate records, and support early intervention and referral processes under the direction of senior safeguarding staff. The post holder will contribute to a strong culture of safeguarding, helping to ensure that the College is an environment where everyone feels safe, respected and valued, and where safeguarding is understood as a shared responsibility. This role is operational and does not carry line management, deputising, or Designated/Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a first point of contact for safeguarding concerns and disclosures, ensuring these are recorded accurately and responded to in line with College safeguarding procedures.
  • Manage a caseload of safeguarding concerns and statutory cases, ensuring appropriate oversight, keeping the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) appropriately informed, and ensuring timely escalation of complex or high-risk cases to the DSL in line with established procedures.
  • Support timely referrals to internal services and external agencies as directed.
  • Maintain clear, confidential, and up-to-date safeguarding records in line with data protection requirements.
