About the role

Teaching Assistant

Salary: LSEAT Harmonised 13 £25,172 (FTE) • Core Hours: 31.18 per week, 38 weeks per year (08:40 am – 03:20 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 08:20 am – 03:20 pm Wednesday)

We require a person who has lots of energy and enthusiasm to support the special students attending our school.

Job Purpose

  • Work with and support the teaching staff of Walton Leigh School in the education and care of pupils, meeting their Special Educational Needs.
  • Work with and support the pupils of Walton Leigh School, enabling them to take part in all aspects of the curriculum.
  • Work under the direction of the Class Teacher, or the Senior Teaching Assistant in the absence of the Class Teacher, as a member of the class staff team, to support the delivery of an appropriate curriculum in a safe, stimulating and caring environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with students aged 11 to 19 who may require any or all of the following:
    • Personal Care tasks such as toileting and feeding.
    • Administration of medication and medical interventions (e.g., gastrostomy feeds, suctioning, tracheotomy, oral medication under supervision).
    • Management of challenging behaviour, including use of registered and county‑approved physical interventions.
  • All tasks are carried out after specific training by medically trained staff and under their supervision until competencies are signed off and the staff member is confident to carry them out independently.
