Manor Mead School Virginia Water requires an experienced, energetic and enthusiastic Senior Teaching Assistant to support the educational and care needs of pupils with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties, including autism and Complex Social and Communication Needs (CSCN).
Senior Teaching Assistants work under the direction of the class teacher and are expected to work an additional 1 hour 40 minutes each week for classroom preparation of teaching resources, including 20 minutes for the weekly team meeting. In the absence of the class teacher, the Senior Teaching Assistant assumes responsibility for the class group.
Key Responsibilities- Support teaching staff in the development and education of pupils, including leading lessons from a teacher’s plan where necessary.
- Use specialist skills in literacy, numeracy or science as required.
- Provide specialist welfare support for pupils with sensory and/or physical impairment.
- Develop specialist knowledge to deliver appropriate personal care or therapy.
- Work as part of a team to ensure pupils’ wellbeing, social and personal development enhances learning opportunities and life skills.
- Organise and maintain the learning environment, taking responsibility for specific aspects of class organisation and administration.
- Undertake pupil observations, record pupil progress as directed, and contribute to reports in discussion with the class teacher.
- Deliver specified work to individuals, groups and whole classes as determined by the headteacher in accordance with The Education (Specified Work and Registration) (England) Regulations 2003.
- Maintain confidentiality inside and outside the workplace.
- Understand and assist in the interpretation of school policies.
- Attend to additional 1 hour 40 minutes weekly for classroom preparation and the team meeting.
