Role Purpose

This role will act a business partner to the Inspection Division to develop and lead Nuclear Power Generation activities. Delivering high quality customer experience, safely to our clients, service delivery teams, service delivery support, sales teams, other members of Technical & Quality Governance and Leadership teams and clients.

The role manages all accreditations relating to Nuclear activities. As part of pro-active accreditation management the role should actively participate in relevant committees to ensure that LRQA can anticipate and plan for regulatory changes. As Nuclear Technical Manager and part of the Technical & Quality Governance (TQG) the role is required to collaboratively support internal and external audits, manage the technical community relating to Nuclear, participate in TQG meetings and projects designed to ensure that TQG effectively supports the business. Delivering a proactive, professional and efficient support service excelling in quality excellence by providing Nuclear technical and quality leadership for all surveyors across the business

Key Responsibilities

The Nuclear Equipment Technical Specialist is responsible for :

  • To provide oversight and governance of the service delivery processes and procedures.
  • To provide technical and quality support to the business for new applications or expanded accreditations, approvals and authorisations.
  • To provide technical and quality support to internal and external customers regarding the delivery of Nuclear inspection and assessment services and support export licence applications.
  • Establish procedures to cover all aspects of the Nuclear business, to satisfy regulatory requirements and improve the authorisation and training process.
  • Provide day to day technical and quality oversight of Nuclear Activities ensuring a strong customer focus within the defined area of responsibility.
  • Contribute to the technical networks to drive technical performance and customer responsiveness. Where gaps in Inspection Service Technical networks are found make recommendations to fill these proactively.
  • Engage with operational teams to ensure quality aspects of service delivery are implemented, measured and continually improved. Drive the implementation of group quality metrics within the operations including monitoring activities, investigating complaints and managing feedback (FHS).
  • To work collaboratively with, and challenge others to support growth and technical governance across all businesses and to act as a role model to support technical development of delivery and sales teams to maintain sustainable and profitable growth
  • Assist in training, mentoring and developing technical personnel to gain authorisations and supporting the functions of technical authorities and resource authorisers. Manage the implementation and maintenance of the technical authorisations process for employees and subcontractors.
  • To pursue Continuing Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Represent LRQA by attending internal and external meetings/seminars and participating on relevant trade committees.
  • Continually seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships.
  • The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Educated to a minimum equivalence of Bachelor’s Degree level and a Chartered Engineer – or equivalent
  • Experienced in taking a technical lead in providing authoritative advice, guidance and arbitration on technical matters both internally and externally.
  • More than four years experience of managing programmes of work within the nuclear industry
  • Experience of engaging and influencing senior management and external regulators
  • Provide Engineering input into Conformity Assessment, Auditing and Inspection activities in the Nuclear domain
  • Knowledge of RCC-M and ASME III codes
  • Lead Auditor Qualification with knowledge of ISO and ASME NQA-
  • Good communication skills and fluent in English are essential and the ability to lead the technical support group, manage regulatory audits, write procedures and technical guidance documents, mentor other surveyors within LRQA and represent the business to clients and on technical committees
