Responsibilities include assisting with management and treatment of outpatient behavioral health activities under the supervision of licensed mental health professionals. Tasks involve conducting intakes and assisting with care and treatment of psychiatric, drug, and alcohol patients, as well as counselling clients/patients with personal, behavioural, or psychological problems.
Key duties:
- Perform work independently, resolving non-recurring problems using judgment to select appropriate guidelines.
- Observe patients to detect behaviour patterns and report observations to licensed behavioural health staff.
- Lead prescribed individual or group therapy sessions under guidance from licensed mental health professionals.
- Complete initial intake interviews and required forms for new patients on behalf of licensed mental health providers.
- Conduct intake interviews under supervision.
- Administer psychological and psychophysiological tests, compiling data and preparing reports.
- Maintain a computerized database to compile monthly training statistics.
- Prepare daily correspondence, meeting agendas, and clinical appointments.
- Collect and maintain monthly statistical data.
- Prepare and maintain attendance rosters and statistical data for Social Work/Behavioural Health services.
- Assist in developing program operating instructions and recommend corrective actions.
- Make comparison reviews to manage program operations within budget.
- Develop and implement appointment templates for clinical providers.
- Place physical maintenance work orders and manage supply stocks.
- Gather data for presentations, process improvement initiatives, and statistical tracking.
- Provide information via telephone and in-person responding to inquiries.
- Interface with the Command’s family support organizations.
- Maintain competency folders and coordinate attendance and agendas for Case Review Committees.
- Prepare open and closed case reports for outpatient medical records.
- Maintain a resource library for professional staff and customers.
- Provide services to families on healthy family life and parenting skills.
Qualifications include an associate degree or commensurate level of training (e.g., military mental health technician) for a psychiatric technician or mental health program assistant, along with a training foundation in psychology and/or social work, conflict management, and crisis de-escalation.
Experience: No less than 3 years’ experience as a psychiatric technician.
Licensure: Maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certified by the American Heart Association. Documentation of BCLS training provided to the COR and Credentialing Department.
