Responsibilities include providing and facilitating injury prevention, basic acute care, effective rehabilitative care, and performance enhancement within the HP program for SOF personnel, prioritising SOF Operators and Direct Combat Support personnel.
- Provide HP services within the ATC’s scope of practice as defined by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
- Design and fabricate protective pads, equipment, and braces to help prevent and treat injuries, including the use of taping techniques.
- Provide instruction and guidance within the ATC’s scope of practice.
- Participate in periodic meetings to review patient care and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Review meeting notes/information if not present at meetings.
- Serve as an advisor to the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator on injury prevention, sports medicine, rehabilitation, and bridging.
- Advise on administrative matters, purchasing of supplies and equipment, and supplemental fiscal requests.
- Collaborate throughout the HP program to enhance the quality of patient care.
- Conduct equipment, product, and literature reviews to ensure current provision of care.
- Participate in quarterly peer reviews for non-privileged healthcare providers.
- Attend and participate in meetings with other POTFF staff members and medical personnel as required.
- Assist in developing and updating criteria-based job descriptions and performance standards.
- Help develop and maintain clinical practice guidelines for consistency of care across all Human Performance Training Centers (HPTCs).
- Assist with preparation of short and long-term fiscal plans.
- Submit input to the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator.
- Develop and promulgate training materials as requested.
- Ensure safe and effective operation of equipment used for patient care.
- Attend required training in accordance with guiding instructions.
- Complete necessary conferences or courses for continuing education units to maintain certification.
- Perform clinical and administrative tasks as assigned.
- Document care provided, work performed, utilization, referrals, and all other information in the Military’s Electronic Health Record and/or the HP Enterprise-wide database.
- Collect and report all data as requested.
- Utilise computers, software, and technologies as required.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Athletic Training and NATABOC certification is required. Experience in strength and conditioning is recommended but not required. The contractor must maintain current certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), or obtain it within the first year of employment. The contractor should be capable of meeting physical demands of training with SOF, including hiking over rough terrain and assisting with strength and conditioning testing and training protocols, and lifting up to 25 kilograms.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of demonstrable experience as an ATC with individual athletes and groups at NCAA Collegiate, Olympic, professional sports, and/or SOF Operators levels is required.
Licensure: A valid, unrestricted license from one of the 50 United States or its territories is required, along with maintaining credentialing requirements in good standing at a local MTF where applicable.
